David Cykiert is a Partner of the Firm, and a member of the Firm’s Corporate Transactional and Licensing & Intellectual Property Departments.
David’s journey toward becoming a corporate transactional attorney was circuitous but fruitful. At first uncertain whether he was destined for the practice of law, his first four years after law school were spent as a founder of a secondary ticket marketplace e-commerce startup, and thereafter in business development and marketing for an on-line continuing education platform. In the course of these experiences David realized that practicing law was a back-door to serial entrepreneurship and, in furtherance of that goal, joined the firm Robinson Brog.
David believes that a carefully honed, comprehensive legal strategy should on the one hand provide structure and insulation against liability, but also on the other hand reflect the vision of and be presented (and presentable) in a way that makes sense to, the entrepreneur. David disbelieves the maxim that sound legal advice is redundant and rehearsed and, rather, takes care to integrate creativity in all of his counsel. No two businesses being the same, David believes creativity is indispensable to a custom-fit legal strategy.
David advises clients at all stages of the business life-cycle: concept creation, launch, development and protection of intellectual property, financing, mergers & acquisitions, and exit, or any of the myriad stages in-between. David takes care to understand the client’s goals, identify the client’s hurdles, and help ensure that the client’s strategies are growth-promoting, rather than growth-prohibiting.
David advises companies across a wide range of industries, including: software, hospitality, sports & entertainment, consumer goods, and advertising, to name a few.
In his free time, David is an avid fisherman, has green thumbs, knows his way around a kitchen, and loves spending time with his wife Olympia, daughter Zoe, friends and family.
