Robert H. Alpert is Of Counsel to the Firm, with his practice primarily focused on ERISA related issues. A significant part of his practice is the design and drafting of qualified employee benefit plans and the submission of the plans through the IRS Determination Letter process. He works with accountants and third party administrators in the preparation and review of the annual plan returns and ensures that the plans are in compliance with any changes in the law. Mr. Alpert also has extensive experience representing Multiemployer plans and their Trustees, as well as employers participating in such plans, with respect to such issues as withdrawal liability, prohibited transactions and fiduciary responsibility.
Mr. Alpert began his legal career as a tax law specialist in the Employee Plans Division of the Internal Revenue Service during the early days of ERISA. He entered private practice in 1981 and he has served as in house counsel to Multiemployer Funds. He became Of Counsel to Robinson Brog in 2004. Mr. Alpert has also served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Children with Down Syndrome.
Mr. Alpert received his J.D. from New York Law School in 1976 and his B.A. from Brooklyn College in 1970. In addition to New York, Mr. Alpert is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
